Room Three Class News Wednesday, 23 January 2013 Hi Everyone Welcome to “The Best Class Under the Sun.” Well it’s back to school again! I hope everyone has had an awesome summer holiday. We are looking forward to a great term with lots of interesting things to learn about.
This year we are welcoming back to Room Three Kiri, Milanyan, Dylan and Quyn. They will be a great help to all their new classmates.
First, we are kicking off the term by finding out all about ourselves, how our classroom runs, our friends and school rules. Because we are the best class under the sun our theme is “Shining Out.”
For Mathematics, coverage this term will be Statistics, Number Knowledge and strategies. It is really important that children learn their basic facts and these are tested regularly. The aim is to improve on your own marks.
Our major study for the term will be Incredible Insects and Scintillating Spiders. This will involve some scavenging in the school gardens to see what we can find!
Library day this term is Wednesday and children are able to bring home two books. I try to encourage the children to find a book they can read themselves and one for someone to read to them. Children will also have readers in their book bags. It would be great if you could hear your child read regularly and ask them questions about what they have read. Each week the children will bring home their poetry books with a new poem to read.
Homework books come home on a Monday night and has a Mathematics sheet glued in. Children can complete this as they wish but they must return their books by Friday for marking.
Spelling notebooks also come home on a Monday or Tuesday night. Could you please help your child learn their words regularly. Spelling notebooks are ruled into three columns. They are marked P, F, T. The “P” column is ticked by parents if the child knows how to spell the word, the “F” column is for a friend to check off and “T” is the column the teacher checks off on Friday.
Secret Snack. At 10.oclock we stop for a break and have a secret snack. I have never been allowed to forget it and some kids have developed clock watching tendencies because of it! Fruit, crackers, and a sandwich are good. Room Three has a class Wiki. Each child has their own wiki page. During the year we add ther writing and photos. To find our wiki type “RoomThreeOpoutere 2013” in to a Google search.
Remember that everyone must have HATS. We swim daily at 11.40-12.20.
As soon as the children have their stationery we will get Homework, Spelling and Poetry books underway. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
